Where are you when right words are spoken?

Job Chapter 5.

Eliphaz continues to speak.

“Do not despise the discipline of God.”

“He wounds, but He also heals.”

Suffering has meaning.

In the end, there is restoration.

He speaks these words to Job.

Job is surrounded by human explanation.

He has lost everything.

His body is broken.

And still,

right words are layered upon him.

Job—

the one called “my servant,”

the one who responds to God’s speaking.

Now he stands between God’s voice

and human explanation.

The one who had remained in God’s speaking

is now trembling inside human explanation.

It has meaning.

It is not in vain.

Things will get better.

These words are not wrong.

And yet, something begins to slip.

The right words

no longer align

with who he is, here and now.

People reach for reasons.

They try to remain inside explanation.

Because it feels safe.

But the more explanations pile up,

the further they drift

from God’s speaking.

This is no place to remain.

Job, who had remained in the speaking,

is beginning to waver.

He is on the verge of drifting away.

The same thing

is happening now,

inside you.

When right words are spoken over you—

where are you?

Do you remain inside human explanation?

Or do you turn back toward God,

and stand in the place

where awareness is given?

In the morning light, a time to sit with the Word.
